Cultech Ltd has a processing technology that converts nutritional
oils and other lipid-soluble nutrients into emulsified and freeze-dried,
free flowing powder forms that are instantaneously and completely
water dispersible. These very stable powders can be used for a multitude
of applications, from hard shell encapsulation, tabletting and powdered
drink formulations to functional foods, infant formula and food
fortification.
The process converts nutritional oils into a completely water-miscible
emulsion in which the microscopically small oil droplets are micro
encapsulated with oligosaccharides. The emulsion, produced without
the need for solvents, is then freeze-dried under vacuum at a temperature
ranging between -20°C to -30°C. This enables the oil to be
locked into the oligosaccharides matrix without any risk of heat or
oxidative damage to the oil. After the drying cycle has finished the
end product is a completely water-dispersible, free flowing powder
suitable for various food and nutriceutical applications.
This patent approved process has been applied to
a great number of different substances, ranging from essential fatty
acids such as fish oil, evening primrose oil, borage oil, linseed
(flaxseed) oil and olive oil, antioxidants such as vitamin E, beta-carotene,
CoQ10, lutein and lycopene – to essential oils such as oregano,
lemon, cinnamon, peppermint and spearmint. However, this is by no
means an exhaustive list. |
